Frequently asked questions

When is a carbide-tipped blade worth the extra cost?

When the workpiece is too hard, too abrasive or too heat-resistant for bi-metal: titanium, nickel superalloys, hardened tool steels, high-silicon aluminium and induction-hardened bar. On those materials a carbide blade's cutting rate and life per cut usually make it the cheaper option per cut, not the dearer one.

What is the difference between set and unset carbide blades?

Set blades angle some tips outward to create clearance, which suits interrupted cuts and mixed work. Unset multi-chip designs split the cut across differently profiled tips in sequence, giving better finish and life on production cutting of difficult alloys.

Do carbide blades need different machine settings?

They reward rigid machines, positive feed control and correct band tension. Follow the machine and blade guidance on band speed for the alloy being cut, and break a new blade in gently before running at full feed.
